What does an F&I Manager do?

F&I means finance and insurance. An F&I manager at a dealership is the person who is responsible for obtaining and reviewing purchaser credit applications, pulling credit reports, budgeting customers from credit reports, and structuring loans or leases based on the underwriting guidelines of banks, and finance companies and/or lease companies.

F&I managers also explain the details of loans to their customers and collect down payments and copies of required documents from customers prior to the delivery of their purchased vehicle.

A finance & insurance manager is also responsible for informing the customer of other available products such as extended service contracts, alarm systems, GAP protection, and various other add-ons.

Once the customer completes their choices of optional products, the F&I manager rolls the cost of those products into the loan, prints all loan/lease paperwork, DMV paperwork and obtains all necessary signatures before authorizing the delivery of the new vehicle.
